Gearbox Publishing and developer Gunfire Games revealed during the opening of Summer Game Fest that Remnant II will indeed follow through on its initial 2023 release date. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo behind Zombieland and the Deadpool movie, are attached as executive producers to the TV series, with Michael Jonathan Smith (“Cobra Kai”) on the writing duties.

Jaffe himself had commented on the rumour when the TV series was announced, saying that he had not had contact with Sony regarding any revival. Grubb also stated that if Sony is indeed working on a new entry, it would seem like series’ creator, David Jaffe, is not involved. “That speaks to a larger strategy shift from Sony – well, it’s not even a shift, it’s a ‘broadening’ of their strategy.” If Sony does have anything regarding the development of the game, they would be showing it later today during the PlayStation showcase, according to Grubb. “I think Twisted Metal is in the works but it may still be a ways off, so I think we’re early,” Grubb said. According to Grubb ( who broke the rumour about EA resurrecting Dead Space that has turned out to be true), the Twisted Metal revival is early in development, and is part of Sony’s first-party games strategy to synergise with its movie and television projects.

The rumour comes from VGC sources, as well as Jeff Grubb, whose sources also correlate with what VGC has heard.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, to coincide with the currently-in-development TV adaptation of Twisted Metal, Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning to revive the series itself with a new entry. Get your salt shaker, it’s another one of those.
